Acesulfame Potassium is one of the many artificial sweeteners it’s 200 times sweeter than sugar and it’s also used as a flavor enhancer. It was discovered in Frankfurt, Germany by a group called Hoechst scientists. Acesulfame Potassium has been used in food and beverages since 1983 and it has been approved by many countries around the world.

Why is it in our food? And what is its purpose?
Acesulfame Potassium also known as Acesulfame K is in food and beverages to reduce the calories that regular sugar has, therefore sugar is replaced with Acesulfame K but that doesn’t mean that it will taste the same as it did with sugar. Most of the time Acesulfame potassium alone product sometimes it also comes with other non caloric or caloric sweeteners according to Kellen Interactive.

According to Kellen Interactive Acesulfame potassium does no harm to humans, it would be recommend for people with diabetes, and for 30 or 40 years they have been testing Acesulfame potassium and making sure it’s safe for consumers, also Acesulfame potassium doesn’t cause tooth decay, and has a long shelf time. But with some animal text have shown of how a few rats had gotten tumors from Acesulfame potassium, and can cause you to have low blood sugar which causes you to consume more.

Acesulfame Potassium and Cancer?

According to and National Cancer Institutes in lab rat tests, rats were given a certain amount of time and for a period of days. During sometime the rats developed tumors and also were they ran twice the change to get breast tumors,bladder tumors, and also respiratory disease.
Is it safe to eat it? Well, it depends if you have a diet coke once every six months, it most likely not going to harm you. But if you had diet coke everyday, than the chances are high of getting harmed.
